Visit Karius at ASM Microbe 2018

At Karius, we are focused on helping clinicians diagnose infections, guide treatment, and ultimately improve care for all patients.

The KariusTM Test is a comprehensive genomic assay that can identify more than 1,000 pathogens from a standard blood draw, including bacteria, DNA viruses, fungi, molds and protozoa. It uses next-generation sequencing to detect cell-free pathogen DNA circulating in a patient’s bloodstream.

At ASM Microbe 2018, Karius Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Tim Blauwkamp will talk about "Validation of A Microbial Cell-Free Dna Sequencing Test for Infectious Disease" on June 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm as part of Session 140 on Metagenomics for Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Current infectious disease testing methods such as blood cultures and PCR panels offer limited diagnostic capability. Many tests only detect a single pathogen or a small panel of pathogens, or cannot detect fastidious and unculturable organisms.  Deep-seated infections may require an invasive biopsy and uncommon pathogens can often be missed.
Applying next-generation sequencing (NGS) of microbial cell-free DNA to pathogen detection holds great promise for transforming our current diagnostic methods to a more comprehensive molecular approach.
The Karius™ Test is a plasma-based NGS assay designed to rapidly and precisely detect over 1,000 pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and DNA viruses.  The test can identify pathogens in culture-negative infections including sepsis, and in deep infections often requiring invasive biopsy such as invasive fungal infections.
This session highlights the clinical experience of utilizing the Karius Plasma NGS test, the results from the SEP-SEQ Trial for sepsis, and clinical applications of the Karius Test in various medical settings to detect a variety of difficult-to-diagnose pathogens that impact clinical outcomes.
