The Power of Microbial Cell-Free DNA: Real World Application of A Liquid Biopsy for Invasive Fungal Infections

Speaker: Martin Hoenigl, M.D., FECMM — Associate Professor of Translational Mycology, Division of Infectious Diseases - Medical University of Graz, Austria Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases - University of California, San Diego (UCSD)

This webinar will explore the application of metagenomic next-generation sequencing of plasma for the detection of invasive fungal infections. The Karius Test, a liquid biopsy for infectious diseases, utilizes a single blood sample to identify over 1000 pathogens for various diagnostic purposes, including invasive fungal infections, pneumonia, endocarditis, and febrile neutropenia. Our featured speaker, Dr. Martin Hoenigl, an infectious disease specialist and expert in the field of clinical mycology, will review some of the published data supporting use of the Karius Test for detection of pathogens associated with invasive fungal infections, including his own research on its diagnostic performance for COVID-19 associated pulmonary aspergillosis. He will also share insights on the optimal utilization of the Karius Test for invasive fungal infections.
